San Juan, TX (KRGV) — During a press conference Wednesday, LUPE Votes leaders credited years of grassroots organizing and high Latino voter turnout for shaping election results across South Texas.
The group said 300 field workers reached more than 100,000 voters and knocked on 90,000 doors in less than two months ahead of the midterm elections.
Leaders said they plan to meet with newly elected officials ahead of the Texas legislative session.
"We're meeting them at their offices. Our community members are going to be the ones who talk to them to tell them what the issues are that you are experiencing," LUPE Votes Director of Civic Engagement Michael Mireles said. "Whether it's in a colonia or a suburb, our people are going to be the ones who are going to help make these decisions in the Texas legislative session."
The group said it also plans to monitor election certification while continuing to press newly elected officials on community priorities.
