A group of investors from Texas and Mexico bought the Cimarron Golf Course in Mission, according to the Mission Economic Development Corporation.

The Mission EDC sold the more than 200-acre golf course last week for nearly $3 million. Local golf pro Abraham Ancer is one of the investors.

"It doesn't take much for anyone to drive by to see that it was not in a good state," Mission EDC Director Teclo Garcia said.

Garcia said the investors plan to restore the building and the course. The new owners may need to spend more than $20 million to upgrade the facilities. Restorations may take up to three years to complete.

"They're going to restore the building and the course to its former glory," Garcia said.  "But more than that, they're going to restore Mission's pride in that facility."

Mission Mayor Norie Garza said the sale marks the beginning of a new chapter and a major investment in one of the community's most recognizable destinations.

“For many families, Cimarron has been a place filled with memories, celebrations, and community gatherings. Seeing this property receive the attention and investment it deserves is exciting not only for those who love golf, but for everyone who wants to see Mission continue to grow and thrive,” Garza said in a statement. “Projects like this help strengthen our city, support local businesses, create jobs, and showcase Mission as a destination people want to visit, invest in, and call home.”

Garza said the new ownership is committed to improving and modernizing the property, including upgrades to the golf course, clubhouse, and overall experience. She said the investment will help attract visitors from across the Rio Grande Valley and create new opportunities for the local economy.
