Officer’s Pregnancy in Jeopardy as a Result of Shooting
MCALLEN – A criminal investigation is underway following a shooting involving an off-duty police officer.
The officer was shot just before 9 p.m. Friday night at a residence near North 46th Street and Hawk Avenue.
According to a press release, the officer was pregnant and lost the baby due to the incident.
Police said the officer's boyfriend is a suspect in the shooting and was detained at the scene.
He is expected to be charged.
A preliminary report calls the shooting accidental and states it happened while the suspect was handling a long barrel weapon.
The officer remains hospitalized.
