San Juan, TX (KRGV) — Five national voter outreach groups led by Latinos spent Monday in the Rio Grande Valley trying to get eligible voters to the polls on Tuesday.

"There's no question the eyes of the country are gonna be here in South Texas," UnidosUS CEO Janet Murguia said.

Murguia joined four other national voter outreach groups. She said the groups wanted to make sure everyone who is eligible gets out to vote, especially Latino voters.

Murguia said races in all three congressional districts in the Valley could help decide which party controls the House.

"They are the swing voters I think of the future," Murguia said.

"La voz es el voto," Isabel Palomares said.

Palomares has heard that phrase for more than 30 years. She joined La Union del Pueblo Entero in the mid-1990s. Joining the group made her realize her opinion has power.

Palomares wants her grandchildren to have leaders who listen to their needs and to take part in elections when they are old enough.
