UTRGV students hitting the road for UTSA matchup in San Antonio

UTRGV students are heading to San Antonio to cheer on the Vaqueros as they take on UTSA at the Alamodome on Saturday.
The university organized a trip for students to the away game, which sold out before the school year started. According to UTRGV, 100 students booked the trip for $75 each.
UTRGV sophomore Alexa Carreon said it will be her first time at the Alamodome and her first away game.
"I have never seen the dome, and I am excited to go see it and more excited because I have never been to an away game, so just seeing how different the scenery of the football game is from home is something that I am interested in," Carreon said.
The trip comes after the Vaqueros took down UTPB 44-0 in the season opener on Saturday night.
UTRGV Student Union and Activities Director Edna Zambrano said the excitement around the program made the away game a natural next step.
"I think there is a lot of excitement around the program, and our students are excited to be part of the game. So for them to go to this away game is just going to add even more to their experience as a student," Zambrano said.
Zambrano said the matchup should live up to its name, the Battle for South Texas.
"I also think it's exciting because we know there are a lot of people from the Valley that live in San Antonio," Zambrano said. "Maybe there are Valley students that are at UTSA, so I think our students are really excited about showing up to the game and representing UTRGV."
Carreon said the trip is about both school pride and new college experiences.
"A more school-involved experience with our football team, and a little trip to San Antonio because it is nice to go see another city for a change," Carreon said.
