U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Pharr International Bridge seized more than $25 million worth of methamphetamine hidden inside a commercial shipment.

On Sept. 8, officers at the cargo facility stopped a tractor-trailer coming in from Reynosa, Mexico. The vehicle went through a secondary inspection that included a nonintrusive scan and a canine team screening.

A physical search of the vehicle turned up 1,164 packages of methamphetamine weighing 2,815.30 pounds. The narcotics were hidden inside a shipment listed as cabbage, tomatillo and cilantro.

CBP estimated the street value of the drugs at $25.2 million.

CBP's Office of Field Operations seized the drugs and the vehicle. Homeland Security Investigations special agents then opened a criminal investigation into the case.
