A judge has denied a request to keep Melody Saldana's name on the November ballot in Edcouch.

Saldana sued after the city declared her ineligible one day after she filed, citing old outstanding debts. A temporary restraining order had placed her name on the ballot, but a judge refused to extend it.

Saldana filed a lawsuit after she alleged city officials blocked her from the general election ballot. The lawsuit states the "basis for the city's determination was allegedly 'outstanding indebtedness to the City of Edcouch.'"

The alleged debt traces back to tickets issued in approximately 2018 and filed under Saldana's former married name, Melody Saldana Galvan.

The lawsuit against the city remains ongoing. Early voting starts October 19.
