53-Year-Old Man Killed after Crashing into Canal near Mercedes
NEAR MERCEDES – The Department of Public Safety is investigating a deadly one-vehicle crash north of Mercedes.
The crash happened at approximately 11:53 a.m. Thursday on FM 1425 near Highway 107.
DPS says a black Ford pickup was traveling north on FM 1425 when the driver failed to drive in a single lane causing the vehicle to veer off the road and into a canal.
Authorities identified the driver as 53-year-old Homero Herrera of Weslaco. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
State troopers continue their investigation.
