UPDATE (6/17): The body of a man who drowned in a canal in Donna has been recovered, according to Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra.

The body of 43-year-old Mario Lazaro Hernandez of Donna was located west of FM 493 on Anderson Road.

Authorities say there is no sign of foul play.

They do believe Hernandez may have been drinking alcohol at the time, but will not confirm the cause of death until the autopsy is complete.

DONNA – Hidalgo County sheriff's deputies are assisting the Donna Fire Department with a drowning investigation.

It happened Sunday evening on Roosevelt Road, east of Dillon Road.

In a tweet, Sheriff Eddie Guerra said witnesses told deputies an adult male went underwater and never came back up.
