BROWNSVILLE – A message posted Friday by Brownsville Independent School District has come under fire from parents whose children attend charter schools.

The post informed parents the district plan to limit performances in this year’s Charro Days children’s parade to only Brownsville ISD students.

The message posted Friday comes under fire from parents whose children don’t attend public schools. They say it’s unfair the message was sent just a month before this year’s festival was set to begin.

The decision was made to limit the amount of schools because there are too many schools in the district to take part in the event.

Different schools go above and beyond in their performances, but those performances are often too long, says Alfonso Gutierrez, Jr., the district’s interim administrator for public information.
