The Brownsville ISD Police Department is asking people to stop parking along Military Highway near Veterans High School due to safety concerns.

Police say parents have been using the shoulder lane of the highway to pick up and drop off their children, causing students to walk across the busy road.

“I understand people run late, there’s a lot of traffic and people don’t want to go through the traffic, but we urge them to make sure their kids are safe,” Brownsville ISD police Sgt. Manuel Charles said. “We don’t want our community members to be hurt out there."

District police said they will have an extra presence in the area starting on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

Parents are being asked to use the school's designated drop-off and pick-up areas on campus.
