The Brownsville Police Department is warning residents about scammers posing as officers.

Police said several residents have received phone calls from scammers pretending to be Brownsville police officers, telling them they have warrants for their arrest or have missed jury duty and must pay a fine.

The scammers are disguising their phone numbers as those of a local law enforcement agency or using "Brownsville PD" as their caller ID.

Brownsville police are reminding everyone they do not request any form of payment relating to citations, arrest warrants or any other fines over the phone.
