BROWNSVILLE – The search for a missing 15-year-old Honduran boy who left a Brownsville shelter has been called off.

The boy’s parents requested the search be called off. His location is still unknown.

This incident highlights a problem at the Casa Padre Shelter, which is part of the Southwest Key Programs' system.

A spokesperson says Casa Padre is not a detention center and therefore cannot stop children from leaving.

KRGV’s Christian Von Preysing spoke with Brownsville authorities who say this isn’t the first report of immigrant children leaving a shelter.
