Brownsville is looking for a new police chief.

The city needs to fill the position after Brownsville Police Chief Felix Sauceda Jr. was promoted to deputy city manager in May. Sauceda is still serving as police chief until a replacement is hired.

City spokesperson Manny Chacon confirmed Sauceda is not leaving the city. As deputy city manager, he will take on expanded responsibilities overseeing all city departments.

Sauceda will work alongside Brownsville Assistant City Manager Doroteo Garcia Jr., who was also moved into the role of deputy city manager.

In June, the city announced Alan Guard would serve as the next city manager.

Current chief of staff Marina Zolezzi will serve as interim assistant city manager while the city recruits a new police chief.
