LA PALOMA – Bouquets of flowers drying in the sun show the time passed.

Five days since a fatal crash took the life of a 21-year-old woman.

It happened near what la La Paloma residents call the mud pits.

Brandon Valadez and his two friends knew the young woman who died on Saturday.

They placed this memorial near the edge of the ditch.

"Thats a little memory, you know, we leave here for her," says Valadez

Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio says Martin Zamorano was driving that Saturday morning.

He is being charged with one count of intoxication manslaughter and three counts of intoxication assault.

Lucio explains the owner of the so called mud pits will not be charged at this time.

Valadez doesn't want this to happen to anyone again.

Four others, including the driver are recovering after the truck they were riding in crashed into a ditch.

The sheriff tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS the five people were driving in an open field that sits in front of a neighborhood in La Paloma.

Lucio says the accident happened around 2 a.m. to 3 a.m.

We learned in the courtroom Thursday, Zamorano does not have any prior convictions and his lawyer is still waiting on his blood alcohol content.
