MCALLEN – A curfew in McAllen has been extended in order to keep minors safe and keep crime down.

Commissioners approved to renew the curfew for another three years.

It makes it illegal for minors under age 17 to be without an adult between 10:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday; on the weekend, this applies between midnight and 6 a.m.

McAllen police say citations can be up to $500.

“The important message is here: know there is a curfew, abide by the curfew and avoid being cited. And, the same thing for the parents because, if a parent allows this, then they also may be cited,” says Lieutenant Joel Morales, McAllen Police Department.
