A driver injured in a June 27 crash died from his injuries on Sunday, the Brownsville Police Department confirmed to Channel 5 News.

Abel Barrientos was identified as the driver who died after he was hospitalized with major injuries following the two-vehicle crash that happened at the intersection of Padre Island Highway and Ruben Torres Boulevard.

Police previously said the driver, now identified as Barrientos, was unconscious when first responders arrived at the scene.

A child in the other vehicle received minor injuries. 

A spokesperson with the department said the other vehicle involved in the crash remained at the scene.
