Jim Wells Co., TX (KRGV) — A tire blowout on a Ford F-250 led to a rollover on U.S. 281 that left an Edinburg man dead, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

On Oct. 23 at around 3:09 p.m., six miles north of Premont, a 1999 Ford F-250 towing a trailer loaded with a tractor was heading south on U.S. 281 when its left front tire blew out. The truck hit a 2025 Toyota Tacoma and pushed it into the center median.

The F-250 rolled over and stopped in the inside lane of U.S. 281. The trailer came loose and rolled over the guardrail into the center median.

Edinburg resident Arturo Ponce, 65, was the driver of the F-250; he died at the scene.

Two 65-year-old males were also in the F-250 at the time of the crash. One was transported to Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital in Corpus Christi by Halo Flight. The second passenger was uninjured.

A 42-year-old man driving the Tacoma was also uninjured.

Troopers from the Alice Highway Patrol Office are still investigating the crash.
