EDINBURG – Court documents show Mayor Richard Molina was registered as a voter registrar during the time of his campaign, meaning he could help people register to vote.

Molina is facing one count of engaging in organized election fraud and two counts of illegal voting.

The Secretary of State says there’s no law against a candidate or campaign worker serving as a voter registrar, as long as they meet specific qualifications set by the state.

The only requirements are to be at least 18 years of age, a U.S. citizen and a registered voter in that particular county.

KRGV’s Taylor Winkel met with Yvonne Ramon of the Hidalgo County Elections to learn about the application process to become a registrar.

Ramon explains there’s an added training involved in the process.
