Fatal ATV Crash Prompts Reminder of Safety Rules
SAN BENITO – The Department of Public Safety is reminding parents to supervise children who ride ATV’s following a fatal crash in San Benito.
A 14-year-old girl was killed when an ATV and a Nissan Frontier collided on Saturday; two other children were injured.
The Texas Transportation Code requires anyone under age 14 riding an ATV to be supervised by a parent or guardian, or someone authorized by one of the two.
KRGV’s Christian Colón spoke with a sales and finance director who has been driving ATV’s since he was a child and now sells them for a living.
He urges people to use protective gear; the ATV Safety Institute recommends using a helmet, goggles, gloves, boots and chest protectors.
The ATV Safety Institute also recommends drivers seek training.
