MCALLEN – In federal court, a former La Joya official is out on bond after pleading guilty to theft Tuesday.

Mike Alaniz is now scheduled for sentencing in January; his legal troubles due to a property purchase.

Authorities say he used more than $39,000 to buy a lot located in the Palm Shores subdivision.
