Jury selection for a man accused in the 2023 shooting death of a San Benito police officer begins Tuesday, Aug. 11.

San Benito Police Lieutenant Milton Resendez died in the shooting.

Authorities say Rogelio Martinez and another man from Mexico led law enforcement on a high-speed chase that ended with Resendez shot.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Martinez.

The second person involved in the shooting, 26-year-old Mexican national Rodrigo Axel Espinosa-Valdez, was also charged in Resendez's death.

He was the driver of the car in the police chase. He pleaded guilty to a murder charge and is set to be sentenced later in August.
