MCALLEN – A spokesperson from La Plaza Mall in McAllen sent out a statement regarding the robbery attempt incident that happened over the weekend.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS had reached out to the mall Saturday after the event at the jewelry store.

On Monday, we received a response from the communication team.

The spokesperson for La Plaza Mall started off thanking all first responders; then attributed their quick action for being able to safely reopen the mall Saturday afternoon.

The statement read in part:

“We remain committed to providing a safe, quality shopping environment to all our shoppers and mall employees.  To do this, we take several proactive security measures, including maintaining a continuous security patrol of our mall and surrounding areas.”

They added the best procedure for anyone who may have left something behind is to call and describe the item.

They’ll potentially match the description to a lost and found log.
