The city of Mercedes is looking to attract entrepreneurs and investors to the area. 

The initiative to bring growth and expansion to the city is something Mercedes Commissioner Jacob Howell says will make the city a go-to place for entrepreneurs in the Rio Grande Valley. 

"We are smack in the middle of the McAllen and Brownsville area," Howell said. "This will be a great opportunity for businesses and entrepreneurs."

Howell said the opportunity isn't just for business owners. He said it's also a way to provide more jobs within the area, while helping the city grow economically. 

"Those monies, those revenues-- the job creation will help secure infrastructure and help with the drainage issues and help our community in many ways," Howell said.

Howell said after struggling for more than a year through the COVID-19 pandemic, the city is ready to grow and flourish.
