Mujeres Unidas accepting volunteer registrations amid surge in hotline calls
Mujeres Unidas, a McAllen-based organization that helps victims of domestic violence, is now accepting registrations for volunteer training.
A spokesperson for the group said the organization has noticed an increase in hotline calls, but fewer people are dropping by in person.
"We'd love to tell you that the numbers are increasing, but unfortunately, because of the situation, we do see the numbers decrease. Now the hotline is still increasing," Mujeres Unidas Community Education Program Coordinator Genesis Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez also said stalking and immigration threats are factors coming into play.
Volunteers will hear from local law enforcement, Child Protective Services and nurses.
