SOUTH PADRE ISLAND – South Padre Island city leaders voted to ban speakers on golf carts.

They’re now crafting an actual ordinance.

The ban is an effort to quiet thing down.

City leaders say they’ve received a number of loud music complaints; safety is also an issue.

“I've noticed that a lot of them have these sound systems and radios, like the vehicles do, but they're just blasting them. So you're moving, you have no windshield so that wind is coming at you, you've got the sound going. So it's hard to hear the other vehicles unless you visually see them. You're not going to hear the other vehicles around you,” stated R.C. Flores, a visitor to the island.

All sound emitting devices will be included in the ban.

The ordinance expected to go into effect within six to eight weeks.
