PROGRESO – Police are searching for a man accused of stabbing a taxi driver in Progreso. 

The driver is currently in the hospital recovering from the multiple stabbings.  

KRGV’s Christian von Preysing spoke with a local taxi driver who has been on the job for 15 years.

Johnathan Ponce says there are dangerous moments in the business. In one instance, he had to call the police.  

"I picked up a drunk man. He asked me for a ride. I took him to Donna. I don't remember the street but it was Donna. He got home and locked himself in. He didn't come out because he didn't have money,” he says. 

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating the assault and are working to identify the suspect.
