Residents Frustrated with Lack of Response from City of Donna
DONNA – Some Donna residents say they’re fed up with getting the run around from city leaders.
Their complaints range from “lack of lights” to weedy lots. The residents say enough is enough. They need answers and they need them now.
“They say we are not in the city limits. Then the next day we are so – we don’t know where we’re at. We’re in limbo,” says resident Rosa Davis.
Davis and several of her neighbors say each has lived in the RV park on South 1st Street in Donna for over a decade. They say they’ve also paid city taxes since they moved in.
Davis and her neighbors say they’ve been fighting to make their park safer.
“Drive through here sometimes at night, I mean it’s just pitch black,” she says.
The group tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS the darkness isn’t the only issue.
“We just want a little help, fill in the potholes. I mean, we are butting our head against the wall," says resident Walter Mooney.
There’s also several weedy lost in the property creating a hazard, the neighbors say.
They add their homeowners association was dissolved years ago. Now, they say the city needs to step in and do their part.
But so far, they say it’s not working out so well.
“No one has returned a call, not one, either from the mayor’s office or the city manager’s office,” says Davis.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS went to the city but no official was available to speak to us in person.
They sent the following email in response to our questions, which reads in part:
“The property is in the city limits. The reason lights have not been provided is because the street within the park are considered private, thus the city has no right to access the roads for improvements.”
“I want all my money back,” says Davis.
She and her neighbors tell us they aren’t done fighting for what they deserve.
We reached out to the city for more answers.
The group of neighbors says they’re prepared to sue the city if nothing gets done.
