‘She left me her four treasures:’ Edinburg father of four reacts after wife killed by suspected DUI driver
An Edinburg father says he doesn’t have time to fall apart after losing his wife of 13 years in a crash that happened near his family’s home.
Martha Luna Miranda was killed in the crash that happened on the evening of May 2 at the intersection of Salinas Street and West Monte Cristo Road.
Victor Sepulveda said he’s still trying to find the words to tell his young children that their mother is gone.
"I'm going to have to explain it to them slowly, bit by bit... and come up with a version that goes something like, ‘well, God called mom home,’” Sepulveda said.
Sepulveda said right now, his focus is on his four children, Charly, Bryan, Axel, and Luna.
“She left me her four treasures," Sepulveda said. “With every passing day, I realize that I have a responsibility toward my four children."
Sepulveda said his family was going to a park near the family’s home when the crash happened.
The Edinburg Police Department identified the other driver as Miguel Angel Suarez, who they said ran a red light and collided into the vehicle driven by Miranda. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sepulveda said the crash injured two of his sons, who are now hospitalized in San Antonio and are expected to be OK.
“He hurt his head really badly; the impact was very strong,” Sepulveda said. “My other son also suffered injuries to his face — cuts from the glass and fractures throughout his body."
Sepulveda is also physically recovering from the crash. He sustained several broken ribs and a shoulder injury.
Sepulveda said Miranda was kind and giving and loved her children.
“She was a wonderful woman. She fought hard for her children and always fought for everything she had," Sepulveda said. “She was always smiling. She was a good person who would greet you and never leave you hanging."
Sepulveda said he will remain strong for his children.
“I'm going to do everything I can to take good care of my children and raise them right,” Sepulveda said.
Suarez remains jailed on a bond of over $1 million.
