EDINBURG – One of the men charged with murder and tampering with evidence is the 2017 killing of Chayse Olivarez went before a judge Thursday.

It all started when the Starr County District Attorney’s Office sent a motion to the judge stating Jose Luis Garcia, Jr. was seen driving unsupervised from his place of home confinement in the county to Hidalgo County.

Garcia appeared emotionless to court, surrounded by his attorneys and his parents.

His probation officer took the stand, admitting Garcia showed up to his weekly meeting without his parents.

Garcia’s parents say they were unable to go with him to the probation meeting in Hidalgo County and sent him with a family friend.

An attorney representing the state urged the judge to revoke, forfeit or increase Garcia’s bond for violating supervised bond release conditions.
