Texas Governor-elect Gina Hinojosa addresses potential Boca Chica Beach sale in first press conference
Austin, TX (KRGV) — Texas Governor-elect Gina Hinojosa held her first press briefing Thursday following her historic victory.
During the press conference, Hinojosa talked about the transition from Gov. Greg Abbott's administration to hers.
Channel 5 News was the only Rio Grande Valley station at the press conference in Austin.
Hinojosa spoke about including Democrats and Republicans in her administration, adding that she made a promise to Texans to work in a bipartisan manner.
Channel 5 News also asked Hinojosa about the possible sale of Boca Chica Beach to SpaceX.
As previously reported, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission had discussed potentially selling 1,300 acres of public land that included Boca Chica.

“It’s such an important resource, the Rio Grande Valley is so important to me as the place I am from, and I will never forget it,” Hinojosa said. “You should know this morning I was pleased to talk to the director of Texas Parks and Wildlife to confirm this issue was not on today’s agenda and to request that no action be taken out of respect to this transition.”
Hinojosa said she will continue to monitor the issue once she is in office.
The Texas Constitution sets the swearing in for the first Tuesday after the Texas Legislature convenes. The next legislative session is set to begin Jan. 12, setting Hinojosa's swearing-in ceremony for Jan. 19, 2027.
