A power outage forced the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley to cancel all Edinburg campus operations for Friday, Sept. 18.

The outage affected many facilities after AEP Texas lost power to a primary line serving the campus.

All classes, activities and events have been canceled for the remainder of the day. The cancellation did not affect any other UTRGV campuses.

Officials asked people not to report to or access the Edinburg campus unless specifically directed to do so.

Employees assigned to the Edinburg campus were told to work remotely for the rest of the day. Those whose responsibilities could not be performed remotely were asked to contact their supervisor for further instructions.

Essential employees were also told to consult with their supervisors to confirm work assignments and responsibilities.

The university said the utility company is working to restore service. UTRGV asked the campus community to monitor their university email for additional updates.
