UTRGV football weekly media availability report
UTRGV football is coming off a second straight win against Prairie View A&M to open the season.
The program's stellar 2-0 start is promising, but the team knows there's plenty of season left to go. The Vaqueros are now two games away from starting conference play. That means the team only has two and a half more weeks to prepare for the first SLC games, when things start to mean just a little bit more.
"We need to be playing our best football September 26 when we get on that plane to go play Southeastern," Vaqueros head coach Travis Bush said. "That's still the focus, it's about us and again every day, every rep is again the goal to be one and oh but also how good can we be."
Prairie View A&M is the highest level of competition the Vaqueros will face in non-conference play.
The win last Saturday proves without a shadow of a doubt, the team is ready to compete with programs at the Division I level.
"To be able win a hard game on the road, it's just going to benefit us down the line," Bush said. "Proud of the way our guys responded, proud of the way they attacked the adversity."
UTRGV continues to emphasize focusing on themselves, consistently saying "It's about us" when it comes to preparing each week.
Coach Bush feels the team understands what it's going to take to keep the winning ways rolling in the months to come.
"If we can continue to play great defense that's number one on our plan to win," he said. 'Then continue to be explosive and execute offensively we'll have a chance."
UTRGV plays Langston this Saturday at the Robert & Janet Vackar Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. from Edinburg.
