The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed an Edinburg motorcyclist early Thursday morning near Elsa.

The crash happened shortly before 5 a.m. on FM 88 south of Mile 20 in Hidalgo County.

According to DPS, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by 55-year-old Elias Cruz was traveling northbound on FM 88 and slowed down to turn into a private drive.

A gray Dodge Durango traveling behind the motorcycle failed to control its speed and struck the Harley-Davidson from behind. The Dodge Durango failed to stop and fled the scene. DPS troopers later found the Dodge on Mile 19, east of FM 88, near the crash scene.

Cruz was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
