San Juan, TX (KRGV) — The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required Military Highway Water Supply Corporation to tell customers in the San Juan and Alamo area to boil their water after a 12-inch water line break.

The notice applies to customers on South Stuart Road, Hall Acres Road, Castillo subdivision, Summer Heights subdivision, Doffin Road, Moore Road, South Alamo, El Gato Road, Rancho Blanco Road, Southside Village Estates, Little Mexico subdivision, South Tower Estates subdivision, South Tower Road, Buena Vista Estates, South Border Estates, Crockett Street and South Border Avenue.

Customers should boil water before drinking it or using it for cooking, ice making, brushing teeth or washing hands and face. The notice says people should bring the water to a vigorous rolling boil and keep it boiling for 2 minutes before they let it cool.

Children, seniors and people with weakened immune systems are especially vulnerable to harmful bacteria, the notice says. People can also buy bottled water or get water from another suitable source for drinking or other human consumption.

When the boil water notice ends, public water system officials will tell customers the water is safe and will send a notice that cancels the boil water notice.
