EZ Cuts in Mission will be closed for the next two weeks after a suspected drunk driver crashed into the building.

"Something like that happens and what runs through your head is the people in the building. You want to make sure everyone is safe, you know?" EZ Cuts owner Martin Briseño said.

A car crashed into the business on Friday, July 24. Plywood now covers the front of the hair salon.

"Everybody that is in this building is important to us," Briseño said.

Briseño opened the location on North Shary Road nine months ago. He says it's something he never expected would happen.

"I was very frightened for my employee. I was more concerned about my employee and the lady and whomever else had walked in," Briseño said.

The investigation showed the car went onto a sidewalk and ended up more than half way through inside the business.

The crash was caught on the salon's security cameras inside. The surveillance footage was obtained by Channel 5 News and shows a black SUV slamming into the front of the building before hitting a desk where an employee was working. The SUV only came to a stop when it hit a wall.

Both the driver and the employee were taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

"She didn't suffer any broken bones, no head trauma, no blood, but she's pretty banged up," Briseño said. "She was pinned behind that desk, you know, I'd say for a minute or so, until the people of next door came and took care of her and helped her up."

Now the salon is filled with damage instead of customers. 

"We cleaned up yesterday. It was a mess. There was water everywhere they broke the plumbing lines," Briseño said. "Windows are already in order. We should have them by this week, hopefully, and then we're going to start with framing and plumbing again and then we have to replace the flooring of course."

Briseño says he has insurance but it's too early to know the total cost of the repairs. The salon will be closed for at least two weeks.

He says employees are being accommodated.

"They'll be sent to a different location for now. And they'll be working somewhere else at the moment, and once we open, they should all be back with us," Briseño said.

And while the damage can be repaired, Briseño says he's counting his blessings.

"We're glad that no one was seriously hurt, and we're glad that everyone is recovering and that, to us, is the most important thing," Briseño said.

Mission police say the driver was charged with DWI and possession of a controlled substance. The driver's identity has not yet been released.
