Julianna Bryant & Ema Petkovic help lead UTRGV volleyball to win in home opener
The UTRGV volleyball team picked up a win in the home opener over Texas Southern in three straight sets.
After a dominant first set, the Vaqueros were trailing the second set 11-8 before rallying back. Things went back and forth from there with the set tied at 26 with a service ace from former St. Joseph Academy star Carmina Tijerina and a kill for Ema Petkovic sealed things.
The Vaqueros went onto win the third set and secure the sweep.
Harlingen native Julianna Bryant finished with nine kills on the night and led the team in blocks with four.
Petkovic led the team in kills (17) and digs (13) on the night en route to the victory.
Martina Franco also had a strong game with 10 kills and three aces.
The Vaqueros won't return home until September 26th against Nicholls. Until then, they'll play in two tournaments with one in Lubbock and another in Illinois.
They'll also open conference play on the road against McNeese on September 23rd.
