Body of missing kayaker recovered in Cameron County
Cameron County Park Rangers and Texas Game Wardens recovered the body of a missing kayaker, according to a news release.
The body of 59-year-old Midland resident William Raney was found at around 2:20 p.m. Tuesday.
The search began on Saturday, when a park ranger was flagged down by a concerned citizen about 0.25 miles north of Cameron County Beach Access No. 6. According to previous reports, the citizen said he was worried about a kayaker who had been spotted offshore but was no longer visible.
The U.S. Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi deployed two aircraft and a boat crew to search the area alongside Cameron County park rangers and beach patrol units on Saturday.
Raney’s relatives have been notified, the news release said.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident remains ongoing.
