A 36-year-old man was charged after allegedly stabbing his father, according to the Brownsville Police Department.

Ernesto Stuart Owen was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury in connection with the assault, police said on Tuesday.

The stabbing happened Monday evening on the 100 block of Candlewick Ct.

According to police, a 71-year-old man was stabbed by his son outside their residence. Both individuals were hospitalized following the incident, but police said the father has since been released.

According to a spokesperson with the Brownsville Police Department, Owen was injured by relatives “hitting him trying to separate him while he was stabbing the dad.”

Bond for Owen was set at $200,000.
