WESLACO – A special surprise for five Rio Grande Valley students courtesy of a national sports retailer and Weslaco police.

The police department told Weslaco Independent School District to nominate students with good grades and several extra-curricular activities.

On Friday, the students got to spend the morning out of the classroom with $200 to burn.

From gloves, to shirts, to shoes – the students were eager to spend the money, but for them and their families, it was so much more than just a shopping spree.
