Sidewalks in Harlingen Left Uprooted Following Flooding
HARLINGEN - Sidewalks in Harlingen were left uprooted by the flooding back in June, still making it difficult for residents to get around.
The damage lies on Business 83 near Stuart Place Road.
Gordon Young lives at Park Place Estates and walks past the uneven sidewalks a few times a week.
The sidewalks were left buckled in five different places along this one mile stretch.
Gordon Young first noticed the damage after the floods.
Young uses his walks to the store as exercise and his routine has changed now that the sidewalk is uneven.
"I'd like to see it maintained and fixed," says Young.
CHANNEL FIVE NEWS spoke to Harlingen Public Works Director Rodrigo Dávila.
He says the west part of town was one of the hardest hit areas.
Davila says crews have started to make saw cuts to see if there’s enough pressure to put the sidewalks back in place.
Davila says they anticipate the sidewalk repairs to be finished by next Tuesday.
