BROWNSVILLE - A murder suspect wanted in Cameron County is in custody after being on the run for 13 years.

The wanted man was arrested while crossing an international bridge in Brownsville.

Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio said investigators got the tip that alleged fugitive Ciro Cantu Munoz was crossing the Brownsville and Matamoros Bridge Wednesday night.

They arrested him and charged him for a murder they say he committed back in 2004.

The victim was Jesus Hilario Jimenez. Lucio said he was shot in the head back on March 29, 2004.

Jimenez was dating the suspect's ex-wife, and according to the sheriff, became upset when he saw Jimenez in his vehicle outside her home.

The suspect allegedly opened fire on the vehicle and that's when Jimenez was killed.

Lucio said Munoz was indicted years ago for the crime but fled to Mexico and evaded authorities all these years.

The sheriff is asking the magistrate to deny bond for Munoz since he believes, given the opportunity, he will flee again.
