Edinburg, TX (KRGV) — The Edinburg Economic Development Corporation announced a $2.5 million partnership with 5x5 Brewing Co. to reopen a veteran-owned taproom in Edinburg as part of “Project 25,” according to a news release.

City leaders and project representatives shared details at a Tuesday press conference at 517 W. McIntyre St. The new 8,000-square-foot facility will include a brew room, restaurant dining area, taproom and bar, and an outdoor patio. The venue will also feature live entertainment.

“5x5 Brewing Co. choosing Edinburg shows the momentum our city has,” Edinburg Mayor Omar Ochoa said in a statement. “We are building a city where people want to spend their weekends, not just their workdays. This new facility brings great jobs, gives our residents a new place to gather, and gives the rest of the Valley another reason to visit Edinburg.”

The veteran-owned business was originally located in the city of Mission and was a popular meeting spot for veterans and those who work in law enforcement. It closed in February 2026 due to rising costs, co-founder Sean Downey said.

“Additionally, the Mission location had many restrictions on the types of events we could hold. We also did not have the space to provide food, which drives beer sales,” Downey said.

The Edinburg EDC will invest $1.7 million, while 5x5 Brewing Co. will contribute more than $700,000 to the project. The Edinburg EDC will own the property and building, and 5x5 Brewing Co. will lease the space for its operations. he EDC will oversee overall project management and retain ownership of the property, while 5x5 Brewing Co. will contract the builder and manage interior operations,

The project is expected to create 20 primary jobs. Construction is set to begin in about a month, with the project expected to be finished by June 2027 and an opening is planned for fall 2027.

The announcement also highlighted Edinburg’s participation as an Emerging Brewscape in the Brew City, Texas program, which promotes craft beer tourism and local economic development.

George Rice, founder of 5x5 Brewing Co., said the company is excited to join the Edinburg community.

“We’re excited to bring 5x5’s South Texas roots and passion for craft beer to Edinburg,” Rice said. “Our vision is to create a welcoming place where people can share a meal, enjoy locally brewed beer, listen to live music, and connect. We look forward to becoming part of the Edinburg community.”

During the event, representatives revealed the 5x5 Brewing Co. logo and a rendering of the planned facility.
