Brownsville, TX (KRGV) — A Brownsville Early College High School student brought a gun to campus and is now in custody, according to Brownsville ISD.

The Brownsville Police Department is leading the investigation, the district added. The 17-year-old male student was not identified by the district or police.

Brownsville ISD placed the campus on lockdown as a safety precaution, according to the district.

In a news release, the district thanked the city and district police departments for responding. The district also urged parents to talk to their children about school safety and check their backpacks.

“We remind our entire school community: If you see something, say something,” the district said. “Reporting concerns can help prevent incidents and protect students, staff and schools.”
