WESLACO - The public has more than a month to give the government comment on new border wall construction in Cameron, Hidalgo and Starr counties.

The Customs and Border Protection budget for 2019 allows for 95 miles of levee or border wall construction.

Hidalgo County will get 24 miles; Starr County 52 miles and Cameron County will have 19 miles.

CBP officers want the public’s comment on the impact these construction sites will have on the environment, culture and commerce.

They also want to hear from the land owners who may be impacted.

The plans we received show maps of where the proposed construction will be in each county.

This includes cities like La Grulla, Rio Grande City, Roma, Escobares and tracks of land in Brownsville and La Paloma.

CBP officials will be going to each of the sites to conduct environmental surveys and ask for input regarding the location and the impact.

The deadline to get your questions answered will be Monday, August 26, 2019.

The comments should include detailed information about your concerns.
