Child Recovering After Being Struck by SUV in Mercedes
MERCEDES – A child from Mercedes is recovering in the hospital. Police say he suffered non-life threatening injuries after being hit while riding his bicycle.
The Mercedes Police Department say the young boy was riding his bike in the parking area of the Casa Saldana Apartment complex.
The child was transported to Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco.
Cassandra Castaneda’s children saw the victim on the ground.
“They said he was crying, that his arm hurt. And that his father was telling him not to fall asleep because he seemed to be going in-out of unconsciousness,” said Castaneda.
Her son, Ozias, witnessed the accident’s aftermath.
“I saw his bike over there. It was laying on the sidewalk and his tire was broken,” said Ozias.
Mercedes police say they’re investigating. As of now, no charges have been filed against the driver.
