The Cowboys come into 2026 with a new look on the edge.

The team brought in Rashan Gary and Malachi Lawrence this offseason to help improve a pass rush that ranked tied for 22nd in the league in sacks in 2025.

Lawrence comes in after posting 19.5 sacks in 36 games over his past three college seasons. At 6’4” and 270 pounds with a 40-yard dash of 4.52 (third fastest for his position at the combine), he possesses all the physical traits to be a special talent.

His new teammate Rashan Gary says he’s already seeing him hard at work looking to fulfill his potential.

“He’s a true student of the game, watches film study,” Gary said of Lawrence. “Then he knows what he needs to work on for practice. Having a guy that’s intentional in terms of how he wants to start practice and how he wants to progress, it’s been great. He’s explosive, fast, and I just can’t wait for him to show the world what he’s got.”

For Gary’s part, he transitions into a role as a veteran and a mentor. However, at just 28 years old, Gary still has every chance to rejuvenate his once promising career this coming season. Though he’s never finished with double digit sacks, he’s had at least 7.5 sacks in five of his last six seasons.

He’s already excited to be part of a franchise that he feels values him for who he is.

“It’s an honor and a privilege, first to wear the star,” Gary said. “And it’s an honor and a privilege to come into an organization that allows me to come in and be myself. Lead how I know how to lead; that’s by my actions. Actions speak louder than words, and that’s what I try to do, stepping into the door, and they gave me room to do that. Having an organization that believes in me and allows me to come in and be me has been great.”

Those edge rushers will be aided by what should be one of the best interior defensive line tandems in the league with Quinnen Williams and Kenny Clark.

With those two occupying plenty of attention, that should allow Gary, Lawrence, and the rest of the Cowboys players on the edge plenty of one-on-ones, and that should mean a much improved pass rush in Dallas this fall.
