Corpus Christi, TX (KRGV) — Incumbent Vicente Gonzalez led Republican Eric Flores in the District 34 Congressional race Tuesday night with more than 91,000 votes, or 57% of the ballots, according to the Associated Press.

Unofficial results showed Flores with around 63,000 votes, or 39% of the vote.

Channel 5 News spoke with Gonzalez on Tuesday afternoon. He told Channel 5 News that this has been a challenging campaign, especially after changes to the district's boundaries.

“My team has worked very hard. We’ve left it all on the field. We’ve knocked on over 200,000 doors. We had thousands of volunteers join our movement knocking on doors and calling people to bring people to the polls,” Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez says the biggest concerns he's heard from voters are the rising costs of groceries, gas, and healthcare.

Gonzalez will spend election night in Corpus Christi, where he'll watch the results with his supporters.

Hidalgo County has yet to release its unofficial election results. All results are unofficial until they’ve been certified.
