Deadline for DACA Renewals Fast Approaching

6 years 5 months 3 weeks ago Wednesday, October 04 2017 Oct 4, 2017 October 04, 2017 5:11 PM October 04, 2017 in News

HARLINGEN – The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office in Harlingen had a steady flow of people going in and out of the building a day before.

Deferred Action Childhood Arrivals Program recipients are applying for renewal of their working permit.

With the DACA Deadline ending Thursday, Oct. 5th, some Rio Grande Valley residents needed to get their renewal done.

Zayra Camarillo is one of those people. Although her DACA status doesn’t expire until next month, she likes to consider herself ahead of the game.

“I just wanted to renew it before so I wouldn’t have any problems with it,” she told CHANNEL 5 NEWS.

Reminder, forms needed (I-765 and I-821) to renew your DACA status must be at the Department of Homeland Security before or on Oct. 5th and must include the $495 biometrics and filing fees for the forms to be processed.

If your DACA status expires after Mar. 5th, 2017 you will not be eligible to renew DACA status.

For now, Camarillo said she’s ready for the month-long wait to hear if her DACA status was renewed.
