McAllen, TX (KRGV) — Democrat Julio Salinas is the projected winner for Texas House District 41.

An estimated 99% of votes have been counted, according to the Associated Press. The results show Salinas received over 36,000 ballots, or 68% of the vote.

With the results in his favor, Salinas says his focus now turns to the issues he wants to address at the state level. He plans to focus on expanding healthcare access and addressing housing costs.

"We're going to fight to lower the cost of healthcare. That includes Medicaid expansion as soon as we can and then capping the prescription drug prices like insulin," Salinas said. "I'm really fighting now for a future and an RGV that works for everybody, and we're gonna continue that battle."

Salinas' challenger, Republican Gary Groves, said he will continue to do good things for the Rio Grande Valley.

"And I wish Julio to do well for our area," Groves said.

The results remain unofficial pending a canvass.
